NEW ORLEANS, La. – After a historic year and a slew of hardware at the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Track and Field Outdoor Championships, senior
Emma Kelley was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Women's Track Athlete of the Year.
Â
Head coach
Jeff Stiles was named the USTFCCCA National Women's Coach of the Year after leading the Bears to the second national title in program history. It is the second time Stiles has received this honor in women's outdoor track and field. In total between indoor and outdoor track and field and cross country, he has received National Coach of the Year honors six times.
Â
Additionally, coming on the heels of winning the same award for the indoor season, assistant coach
Gordon Reiter was named the USTFCCCA National Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.
Â
Emma Kelley
On the final day of the outdoor national championships, Kelley won three events – two individual and one relay – to lead the Bears to the program's second outdoor national title. She now has six national championships between indoor and outdoor.
Â
Kelley won the 400m crown with a personal best and a new program record of 53.73. Less than an hour later, she was back on the track to win the 800m title, running a 2:06.02 and winning by more than two seconds. It was the first time since 1992 that an athlete has won both the 400m and 800m in the same meet.
Â
Kelley capped off the championship with 4x400 teammates
Kylie Spytek,
Danielle Schultz and
Cate Christopher, winning the title in 3:44.69. The win marked the first-ever 4x400 relay national championship in program history for outdoor.
Â
Jeff Stiles
In his 23
rd year at the helm of the Bears, Stiles led the team to its second national title in program history, winning the 2024 national title with 71 points. That point total was the most by a winning women's team since 2015.
Â
The Bears scored points in nine different events, including 10 or more points in four events – 800m, 400m, 4x400m relay and the pole vault.
Â
Individually, WashU came away with four titles: Kelley in the 400m and 800m; the 4x400 relay; and
Yasmin Ruff in the pole vault.
Â
Gordon Reiter
In his 11
th year with the Bears, Reiter guided the middle-distance athletes to a whopping 44 points at the NCAA Division III Women's Track and Field Outdoor Championships.
Â

Â
At the UAA conference meet, Reiter's student-athletes finished 1-2-3-4 in the 800m and won the 4x400 relay by more than three seconds.
