ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Ryan Loutos '21 is heading to the major leagues as the St. Louis Cardinals are calling him up, they announced Monday.
Loutos was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2021 after leading the Bears' to their first-ever NCAA Division III World Series appearance.
Loutos worked his way up through the Cardinals' system, playing first for the Palm Beach Cardinals and then the Peoria Chiefs. From there, he went to the AA Springfield Cardinals and eventually the AAA Memphis Redbirds.
Most recently, Loutos was invited to Big Leagues spring training and played with the Redbirds before being called up.
So far in 2024, he has a 1.72 earned-run average in 15.2 innings pitched.
The Cardinals host the Baltimore Orioles in a three-game series starting tonight at 6:45 p.m.
