Men’s Track and Field Finishes Flury of Last Chance Meets


NAPERVILLE, Ill. / JOLIET, Ill. - In hopes of securing or improving upon a top-22 NCAA Division III mark, the Washington University in St. Louis men's track and field team traveled to Joliet, Ill. to compete in University of St. Francis' last chance meet, Friday-Saturday May 10-11. Three pole vaulters also made the trip to Naperville, Ill. to participate in North Central College's Carius/Gregory Invitational, Thursday, May 9. 

Team scores were not recorded. 

Thursday's Top Finishers (at North Central): 

Pole Vault: 
  • Peter Lichtenberger won the event with his clearance of the 4.99m bar
  • Reigning University Athletic Association (UAA) outdoor champion, Hayden Kunkel, spun a third-place finish as he posted a vault of 4.98m 
  • Tommaso Maiocco secured fourth in the event as he soared over the 4.84m bar 

Friday – Saturday's Top Finishers (at St. Francis): 

200 Meters: 
1,500 Meters: 
  • William Houser won the 1,500-meter invitational section one with a time of 3:49.21 
  • James Corbett corralled third as he crossed the finish line with his mark of 3:49.88 
5,000 Meters: 
  • In the 5,000-meter open section two, Cullen Capuano secured a runner-up finish as he earned a time of 14:11.37 
  • Conor Daly (14:27.47) notched sixth in the event 
  • Matthew Hornung hauled in a mark of 14:48.45 to record 16th  
  • In the 5,000-meter open section one, Micah Benson turned in a time of 14:49.07, good for 10th  
  110 Meter Hurdles: 
3,000 Steeplechase: 
  • Will Liu placed 10th in the steeplechase with his mark of 9:25.12 
  • Charlie Fallon (9:33.85) garnered 22nd  
High Jump:

The Bears will have one final opportunity to grab a top-22 mark at Augustana College's last chance meet, Wednesday - Thursday, May 15-16. Action from Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex in Rock Island, Ill. is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday and 12 p.m. on Thursday.
