Men’s Track and Field Sits in Second Upon Conclusion of Day One at UAA Outdoor Championships

 
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Washington University in St. Louis men's track and field team began the two-day University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championships, Saturday, April 27. The Bears won three events and set one new UAA and one new stadium record. 
 
With seven champions crowned on day one, WashU sits in second place, with 57 points. 
 
Carnegie Mellon University is in first place (98 points), while Emory University (49 points), is in third. 
 
Saturday's Top Finishers: 
 
Pole Vault (Final): 
  • UAA CHAMPION!! 
  • Hayden Kunkel bested the UAA in the pole vault with his winning 4.79m vault 
  • Kunkel earned 10 team points for the Bears 
  • Tommaso Maiocco tied for second with his clearance of the 4.69m bar 
  • Maiocco picked up seven team points for the Bears 
  • Peter Lichtenberger grabbed a fourth-place finish as he posted a mark of 4.54m 
  • Lichtenberger secured five team points for the Bears 
  • Loucas Xenakis (4.24m) placed ninth 
 
4 x 800 Relay (Final): 
  • UAA CHAMPIONS!! 
  • The 4 x 800 relay of Jackson Cox, Will Dehmler, William Frohling, and William Houser won the event with a time of 7:34.30 
  • The team shattered the previous stadium (7:44.29) and UAA (7:34.70) records in the process 
  • With the win, the team picked up 10 team points 
 
10,000 Meters (Final): 
 
Long Jump (Final): 
  • In the long jump, Jalen Dural recorded a sixth-place finish as he posted a leap of 6.71m 
  • Dural earned three team points for the Bears 
  • Loucas Xenakis secured seventh with his jump of 6.55m 
  • Xenakis snatched two team points for the Bears 
  • Jared Dawkins (6.28) took ninth 
 
Shot Put (Final): 
  • Seif Elkhashab hauled in fifth with his heave of 13.90m 
  • Elkhashab corralled four team points for the Bears 
  • Tom Peters (13.22m) placed ninth in the shot put 
 
3,000 Steeplechase (Final): 
  • Will Liu grabbed third in the steeplechase as he crossed the finish line with a time of 9:18.34 
  • Liu recorded six team points for the Bears 
 
400 Meters (Prelim): 
  • William Frohling posted the second-best preliminary mark in the UAA with his time of 49.29 
  • Frohling will compete in tomorrow's final 
 
100 Meters (Prelim): 
  • Samuel Pan just missed a lane in tomorrow's final as he finished ninth with a time of 11.041 
  • Elvin Binagi (11.39) placed 15th  
 
800 Meters (Prelim): 
  • Will Dehmler notched the second-fast time in the preliminary round with his mark of 1:51.97 
  • James Corbett had a solid showing as he posted a time of 1:52.57 to take sixth 
  • Dehmler and Corbett with both compete in tomorrow's final 
 
200 Meters (Prelim): 
  • Alex Garnder registered a mark of 22.53, which was good for 11th 
  • Elvin Binagi (22.93) took 14th

  • Hayden Kukel – 8th – 4.79m 
 
Shot Put: 
 
WashU will conclude the UAA Outdoor Championships, tomorrow, Sunday, April 28. The women's javelin throw will kick off the final day of competition with a start time of 9 a.m. ET.
