ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The No. 7 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team defeated No. 30 Brandeis in the quarterfinal of the 2024 UAA Tennis Championships, held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. The Bears are 16-3 overall.
Doubles
No. 2 doubles got the first point for the Bears as the No. 23 team of
Karen Gao and
Eleanor Archer defeated Sabrina Loui and Nancy Zhang 8-2.
Brandeis pulled even with a win at No. 1 doubles. The No. 19 duo of
Eliana Hanna and
Amber Edmonds fell to No. 10 Bhakti Parwani and Rebecca Suarez 5-8.
Emily Chiasson and
Ainsley Heidbreder gave WashU a 2-1 lead with a win at No. 3 doubles, beating Cecilia Denis and Chahana Budhbhatti 8-6.
Singles
Hanna secured the first win at singles, defeating Zhang 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
Archer followed with a win over Budhbhatti 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles to make it a 4-1 game.
Gao clinched the match for the Bears with a win over Lika Bolkvadze at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 7-5.
The matches at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles went unfinished once WashU clinched.
At No. 1 singles,
Nina Moravek won the first set against Parwani 6-2 and was winning the second set 5-4.
Amber Edmonds fell to Anastasia Sia 7-6 (7-3) at No. 5 singles in the first set but was ahead 2-0 in the second. Chiasson lost the first set 7-5 to Loui but was winning the second set 4-1.
The Bears will face No. 5-ranked Emory, who is the second seed in the tournament, tomorrow in the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. ET.
