ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The No. 7 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team fell to No. 5 Emory 5-3 in the UAA semifinal match on Saturday afternoon. The Bears are now 16-4 overall and will play in the third-place match tomorrow against No. 13 Case Western Reserve University at 8:30 a.m. ET.
Doubles
The Bears went 2-1 in doubles to hold the edge heading into singles action.
The No. 3 doubles duo of
Emily Chiasson and
Ainsley Heidbreder fell to Yanire Marte and Izzy Antanavicius 3-8 to go down 1-0 in the match.
No. 2 doubles team of No. 23
Karen Gao and
Eleanor Archer evened things out with an 8-5 win over Eliza McPherron and Iris Berman.
The No. 1 doubles team of No. 19
Eliana Hanna and
Amber Edmonds gave the Bears the edge, winning 8-6 over No. 14 Emily Kantrovitz and Ana Cristina Perez.
Singles
Nina Moravek fell to No. 1 Kantrovitz 2-6, 2-6 at No. 1 singles and Archer lost to No. 12 Perez 1-6, 0-6 at No. 2 singles.
Hanna lost to No. 42 Ilayda Baykan 1-6, 5-7 at No. 3 singles and Gao picked up the win over Antanavicius at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).
Edmonds lost to Berman 2-6, 5-7 at No. 5 singles and with it, Emory clinched the match. Chiasson's match at No. 6 singles against Marte remained unfinished. She won the first set 6-4, lost the second set 2-6 and was trailing 1-2 in the third set.
