ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team continued its weekend University Athletic Association (UAA) series against Emory University, Saturday, April 13. Emory took game one by a final score of 12-3, in 10 innings and the two tied game two, 4-4. Due to darkness and per the UAA manual, game two was officially ruled a tie. After today's action, WashU owns a record of 19-11-1 (3-3-1 UAA), while Emory owns a record of 18-14-1 (5-5-1 UAA).Â

Game One (10 Innings) – Emory 12, WashU 3Â

WashU dropped game one by a final score of 12-3, in 10 innings.Â

The Eagles outhit WashU by a final tally of 13-5.Â

Emory scored a run in the first and second innings to take the 2-0 lead as the game progressed to the bottom of the second.Â

WashU got on the board in the bottom of second. Minarovic reached first on a dropped third strike, then scooted to third on a throwing error by the pitcher on a failed pickoff attempt. With Minarovic on third, and no one out, graduate student
Sam Polk delivered an RBI on a sacrifice fly to cut WashU's deficit in half, 2-1, after two innings of play.Â

The Eagles added a run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth to generate the two-run, 3-1, cushion.Â

The score remained the same, 3-1 in favor of Emory, as the game progressed to the top of the eighth.Â

WashU tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth. Mauterer led off the frame with a single down the left field line, then
Clayton Miller secured a bloop single to right to set up first and second, with no outs. Following a strikeout and an infield fly to first, Malis roped a single to load the bases.Â

With the bases loaded and two away, Buday knotted the score at 3-3 with a two RBI single to left, which allowed Mauterer and pinch-runner first year
Anthony Equale to cross the plate. A ground ball out ended the ninth as the game went to extras.Â

Emory scored nine runs in the top of the 10th to take the 12-3 lead and went on to win game one by the same score of 12-3.Â

Game Two: WashU 4, Emory 4 – Officially Ruled a TieÂ

The Bears outhit Emory by a final tally of 11-5 in the nightcap.Â

Will Henkel got the start on the mound and threw three innings and allowed just one hit. Out of the bullpen, first year
Owen Block tossed four innings on the bump for the Bears. Block allowed three hits, three runs, and fanned five.Â

Emory tallied a run in the top of the second to generate the early 1-0 lead.Â

WashU loaded the bases in the third inning with only one out. Pellegrino notched a single through the left side, Buday drew a walk, then
Clayton Miller torched a single to fill the bases full of Bears. However, a foul out and a strike out kept WashU off the board. After three innings of play, Emory held the 1-0 advantage.Â

Emory grabbed three runs in the top of the fifth to stake the 4-0 cushion.Â

The Bears got on the board in the bottom of the seventh to trim its deficit to a pair, 4-2. Equale walked, Pellegrino and Buday then earned back-to-back singles to load the bases, with one out. After Buday's base knock, Emory made a pitching change. Following the change,
Clayton Miller connected on a line drive sacrifice fly to center as Equale scored. Â

Still in the seventh, Minarovic smoked a single back up the box, which allowed Pellegrino to cross the plate. With seven innings in the books, Emory held the two-run, 4-2, lead.Â

In the top of the eighth, WashU's first three hitters reached to set up bases loaded and no one out. Mauterer reached on a bunt single to the pitcher, Cleage notched a single to right, then sophomore
Connor Lindsey drew a walk. Stepping up to the plate, Equale garnered an RBI groundout to third to put the score at 4-3, in favor of Emory. A Pellegrino intentional walk loaded the bases with one out. A strikeout and a flyout to center ended the frame as the Eagles held the one-run, 4-3, advantage heading to the ninth.Â

With two outs in the ninth and Minarovic on third, Cleage generated the game-tying run on a single through the right side to even the score at 4-4.Â

Due to darkness after the ninth inning, the game was ruled a 4-4 tie.Â

The two will conclude the series, tomorrow, Sunday, April 14 with a single contest beginning at 11 a.m. The team will honor its six seniors prior to first pitch at Kelly Field.Â
