ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team picked up a pair of University Athletic Association (UAA) wins against New York University, Saturday, March 30, to remain undefeated in UAA play. The Bears took down the Violets by final scores of 14-8 and 8-7.

With the two wins, WashU's record climbed to 17-8 (3-0 UAA), while NYU's record sunk to 13-6 (0-3 UAA).

Game One: (RV) WashU 14, NYU 8

The Bears took game one by a final score of 14-8.

WashU outhit NYU by a final tally of 13-11. First year Carson Cleage recorded a 3-for-4 showing, including four RBI.

Sophomore Miles Quemuel-Labrador got the start on the bump for the Bears. Quemuel-Labrador tossed four innings of work and allowed seven hits.

Senior Clayton Miller came out of the bullpen and fired 3.2 innings and did not allow a run. Clayton Miller got the win (1-0) and notched a 4-for-4 day at the dish with three RBI.

The Violets scored three runs in the top of the second and one run in the third to generate the quick 4-0 advantage as the game progressed to the bottom of the third.

In the bottom of the third, after a Clayton Miller double down the left field line, graduate student Evan Minarovic produced his third homer of the season as the round-tripper cleared the right centerfield fence. After the two-run shot, WashU cut its deficit in half, 4-2.

However, NYU got its four-run lead back in the top of the fourth on a two-run homer. After three and a half innings, the Violets held the 6-2 cushion.

With both teams trading two-run shots, Cleage belted his first career homer in the bottom of the fourth. After graduate student Sam Polk reached via a base on balls, Cleage found a pitch to his liking and did not miss it. Cleage deposited an inside offering and belted a no-doubt, two-run, homer over the left field fence. With WashU's second dinger in as many innings, NYU clung to the 6-4 lead after four innings of play.

The Violets generated two runs in the top of the fifth to snag the 8-4 advantage.

WashU's first three hitters reached base safely in the bottom of the fifth to set up bases loaded, with no outs. Senior Harry Mauterer led off with a bloop double to right center, followed by a Clayton Miller single and a Minarovic hit by pitch. Junior Braden Mazone crushed a single to right, which allowed Mauterer to score. Junior Justin Zachery then drove in Clayton Miller on an RBI groundout. Following the groundout, the Violets made a pitching change with NYU in front, 8-6.

With the new hurler on the mound, WashU had runners on first and third, with just one out. After a foul out, Cleage, continuing his hot day at the plate, laced a ground-rule double to left center. Minarovic scored from third on the play as WashU trimmed its deficit to one, 8-7. However, the Bears stranded the bases loaded on a popout. With five innings in the books, NYU held the one-run, 8-7, lead.

In the top of the sixth, NYU was threatening with the bases loaded and two away. The batter put a ball in play to left center and senior Magnus Dunn made a running shoe string grab to keep the score at 8-7, in favor of NYU.

Clayton Miller recorded WashU's third two-run homer of the afternoon in the bottom of the sixth to give the Bears the 9-8 advantage. The Bears opened the game open by scoring five more times in the sixth to race out to the 14-8 lead.

Clayton Miller closed the door and preserved the 14-8 victory for the Bears.

The Violets scored a run on an RBI single in the top of the second to put WashU's lead at two, 3-1.

The Bears scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth, on four hits. Pellegrino got things started with a single to right center. Mauterer then notched a ground-rule double to right. With Mauterer now on third, Clayton Miller barrelled a single up the middle to bring home Mauterer. Later in the frame, Clayton Miller scored on a throwing error by the Violets first basemen. After five innings of play, the Bears held the 6-1 cushion.
