St. Louis, Mo. – The No. 15 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team defeated North Central 8-1 on Saturday afternoon at Tao Tennis Center. The Bears are now 5-1 overall and remain undefeated against Division III programs.
Doubles
Eleanor Archer and
Karen Gao notched an 8-6 win over Kensington Payne and Anastasia Bozovic at No. 2 doubles while
Ainsley Heidbreder and
Nina Moravek topped Nina Patience and Mikayla Edquiban 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
North Central claimed its lone win of the day at No. 1 doubles as
Eliana Hanna and
Amber Edmonds fell to No. 25 Abigail Penados and Natalie Bassett 8-4.
Singles
Katherine Johnston picked up the first win of singles action at No. 6 singles, defeating Bozovic 6-1, 6-1. Edmonds then defeated Edquiban 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and Hanna beat Payne 6-2, 6-2 at nO. 3 singles.
Emily Chiasson topped Patience 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, followed by a 6-4, 6-4 Moravek win over No. 26 Penados at No. 1 singles. Archer wrapped up the match with a win over Bassett, going 7-6, 2-6, 10-6.
The Bears hit the road for their spring break trip to California, starting with a match at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on March 11. From there, WashU will face Caltech, Bowdoin and Chapman during the remainder of the trip.
