Â
The Bears wasted little time getting on the board, exploding for six runs in the first. WashU's first three batters reached base safely to set up bases loaded and no one out as junior
Brandon Buday reached on a dropped third strike, followed by walks from Pellegrino and senior
Kaden Bernhard. Mauterer then singled to left center, allowing Buday and Pellegrino to cross the plate to secure the 2-0 lead.Â
Â
Mazone then produced a single through the right side as Bernhard scampered home to push WashU's lead to three. After graduate student
Sam Polk scored on a wild pitch and Mazone scored on a passed ball, graduate student
Evan Minarovic laced a double that short hopped the wall as junior
Dax Braemer scored from first to extend WashU's first inning cushion to 6-0.Â
Â
WashU added a run in the bottom of the third to generate the 7-0 lead. After singles by Mazone and senior
Clayton Miller put runners on first and third, Mazone later scored on a throwing error from the Kohawk catcher.Â
Â
Pellegrino, with one on in the bottom of the fourth, found a barrel on an inside offering and sent it over the left field fence, onto Forsyth Boulevard, for a two-run round tripper to push WashU's advantage to 9-0. Mazone later tallied an RBI single as the Bears took the 10-0 lead after four innings of play.Â
Â
The Kohawks scored a run in the top of the eighth, on a sacrifice fly, to put the score at 10-1, in favor of WashU.Â
Â
Sophomore
Miles Quemuel-Labrador came out of the Bears bullpen and logged the final two innings on the mound to secure the 10-1 victory.Â
Â
The Bears will conclude the Coe series with a home doubleheader tomorrow, Sunday, February 25. First pitch from Kelly Field is scheduled for 11 a.m., with game two slated to start approximately a half hour after game one. Â
