Box Score TOWN AND COUNTRY, Mo. - The No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team squared off with Division II Southwest Baptist University, Saturday, February 17. Using the NCAA Division I/II scoring system, the Bears came away with the 4-3 victory inside of Woodsmill Tennis Club.
WashU swept the three doubles matches to earn the available one doubles point.
The No. 1 doubles team of senior
Gaurav Singh and sophomore
Colin Fox defeated IIyes Khelifi and Youssef Nabil, 6-3.
In singles play, Phillips turned in a straight set sweep (7-5, 6-0) at No. 1 singles against Beneyto Sanchez.
Sophomore
Eric Kuo welcomed a No. 2 singles victory over Nabil by set scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
Celebidachi fell in a tight three-set battle, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, at No. 3 singles against Khelifi.
After winning the first set at No. 4 singles, sophomore
Colin Scruggs dropped his match to Neff (2-6, 6-2, 6-2).
Singh, battling at No. 5 singles, used a 7-5 tiebreaker win to grab the first set, 7-6 (7-5). Singh then carried his momentum into the second set and defeated Pinto to earn the 6-3 second set victory.
Garcia Muriel dropped his decision (4-6, 4-6) at No. 6 singles to Radoman.
WashU will look ahead to the three-day 2024 National Indoors, Friday-Sunday, February 23-25. The Bears are set to take on No. 11 Sewanee in the opening round on Friday. The players that are not traveling will take on Missouri Baptist University, Saturday, February 24. First serve from Vetta Sunset Tennis Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.
