CHICAGO, Ill. – The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team concluded the regular season with a 1-1 draw at Chicago on Saturday. The Bears finish the regular season without a loss at 17-0-2 with a 6-0-1 mark in UAA play.
WashU took an early lead, scoring a 5:56 as senior
Meryl McKenna scored on a pass from senior
Gaelen Clayton for the 1-0 advantage. It was McKenna's fifth goal of the season and Clayton's team-leading sixth assist.
The equalizer for Chicago also came relatively early as Indira Naylor scored on a double assist from Sarah Ginsburg and Stella El-Fishawy in the 16
th minute.
Each team had one more shot on goal in the first half following the goals, first from Chicago's Kamiryn Grimes in the 27
th minute, which was saved by graduate goalkeeper
Sidney Conner. First-year
Olivia Clemons put a shot on frame in the 33
rd minute, which was stopped by the Maroons' goalkeeper Sophie Pilarski.
WashU had the first attempt in the second half as Clemons sent one in, which was stopped by Pilarski.
Conner made her lone save of the second half in the 62
nd minute, stopping a shot from Naylor.
First-year
Cami Colpitts put a shot on goal in the 65
th minute, which was the final on-frame shot of the game, and was stopped by Pilarski.
The Bears out-shot the Maroons 12-5 with five shots on goal to Chicago's three. Chicago had the advantage in corner kicks with three to WashU's one.
