ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer game defeated Colby College 1-0 on Saturday afternoon to advance to the Elite 8. It is the program's 14
th trip to the national quarterfinal.
The Bears scored their game-winner with less than eight minutes remaining. First-year
Olivia Clemons maneuvered around a Colby defender and passed it to junior
Grace Ehlert who finished the ball for her 14
th goal of the season.
WashU had a number of offensive chances against the Mules, out-shooting Colby 21-5 with nine shots on goal. The Colby defense, however, remained rock solid with goalkeeper MK Marshall making eight saves on the day.
Graduate goalkeeper
Sidney Conner made three saves on the day for her eighth shutout of the season. Her first save was in the 27
th minute on an Abigail Jarvi shot and she followed with another save in the 31
st minute on an Annie Liebich ball. Her final save was in the 73
rd minute on a Jane Maguire shot.
The Bears will play Chicago - who defeated Messiah 3-2 - tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the Elite 8, for a chance at heading to the Final Four in Las Vegas starting on December 5. The Bears played to a 1-1 draw against Chicago in the final regular-season game on Nov. 9.
