FINAL FOUR BOUND: Women's Soccer Beats Chicago 1-0 in Elite 8

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team is headed back to the Final Four with a 1-0 win over Chicago on Sunday afternoon in the Elite 8. It is the seventh time in program history the Bears have reached the national semifinal and the second year in a row. WashU is 21-0-2 on the season.

Olivia Clemons vs Chicago Elite 8 goalThe Bears scored the game-winner with 10 minutes remaining in regulation as Olivia Clemons maneuvered around multiple Chicago defenders as fired the ball into the left corner of the net. The goal marks her fourth game-winner and 20th of the season, which puts her fourth all-time for most goals in a single season.

The play proved tough, as both teams had already met once this season, battling to a 1-1 draw in UAA play, which was one of the Bears two draws this year. Both teams had spurts of controlling the field, with the Bears edging Chicago 11-5 in shots with nine on goal to the Maroon's three. WashU had three corner kicks while Chicago did not have any.

In the net, graduate goalkeeper Sidney Conner made three saves, all in the second half, to earn her ninth shutout of the season. She made her first save in the 66th minute of a Livie Sabloff shot. Her stop in the 80th minute on an Ashley Hayase ball was the catalyst for the Bears to score 16 seconds later. Her final save was in the 85th minute on a Stella El-Fishawy ball that preserved the win for WashU.

The Bears will take on No. 2 Christopher Newport on Friday, December 6 in a time yet to be announced. The battle for the final two spots in the Final Four is still ongoing, between William Smith/Trinity and Emory/Amherst.
