ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team defeated Simpson 5-1 on Sunday evening to advance to the program's 19
th Sweet 16. The Bears are now 19-0-2 on the year.
The Bears will face Colby College next weekend in the Sweet 16, at a site and time yet to be determined. The winner of the game will face the winner of Messiah and Chicago for a trip to the Final Four.
WashU scored its first goal at the 12:17 mark as graduate student
Ally Hackett took a rebound off a
Sophie Viscovich shot and finished it off into the bottom of the right corner.
Just 18 seconds later, junior
Grace Ehlert dribbled around Simpson defenders and scored her 13
th goal of the year to put WashU up 2-0.
In the 16
th minute, Viscovich netted her first of two goals of the game on a pass from senior
Meryl McKenna. She followed it up with another goal in the 28
th minute on a pass from senior
Gaelen Clayton to make it 4-0.
First-year
Olivia Clemons scored her 19
th goal of the year with 29 seconds remaining in the first half after slipping past a defender and firing it in for a 5-0 lead at halftime.
Simpson put a goal on the board in the 64
th minute as Julia Wagoner took a corner kick pass from Hailey Kowzan and used her body to get the ball in the back of the net.
As a team, the Bears had 22 shots with 12 on goal to Simpson's six with four on goal. The Bears also had six corner kicks to the Storm's three.
Offensively, Viscovich had seven shots with six on goal, two goals and one assist. Clemons registered three shots with one on goal and a goal.

Sidney Conner made three saves in the win.
