Men's Soccer Falls in UAA Opener at Emory, 5-2

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team had a 1-0 lead at halftime in its UAA conference opener at Emory, 1-0. However, the Eagles used a flurry of goals in a seven-minute period to come from behind and down the Bears 5-2 in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon.

It was a scoreless game through most of the first half. It was not until the 42nd minute that junior Zach Susee broke the scoreless draw with a goal at 41:05, putting the Bears up 1-0 at the break.

It was at 55:16 that the Eagles leveled the match at a goal a piece with an own goal by WashU.

Starting at 64:19, Emory scored three-straight goals in just over three and a half minutes to take a 4-1 lead. First-year Jamie Lee tried to get the Bears back on track with a goal at 68:54 to cut the home team's advantage down to 4-2.

But just over two minutes later the Eagles scored their fifth goal and held on for the final 19 minutes for the 5-2 win.

Susee led the offense for WashU with six shots, including two on goal with his one goal.

Sophomore Owen Ross played all 90 minutes in goal making four saves.

WashU (6-3-1, 0-1-0 UAA) returns to the pitch next Friday, October 11 when they travel to Massachusetts to take on Brandeis. Game time with the Judges is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET.
