WALTHAM, Mass. – Playing to the last second, the Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team dropped a heart-breaker on the road to Brandeis in UAA action on Friday afternoon. The Judges were able to find the back of the net with less than three minutes remaining to get the conference win.
It was a scoreless first half with WashU controlling the pace of play, taking eight shots to just four for Brandeis. Three of the Bears' shots were on goal while the Judges could not find one on target.
Three opportunities were brought back as WashU was offsides, but the Bears were able to secure two corner kicks in the first 45 minutes.
It took until the 88th minute before a team would score. Unfortunately, it was the Judges who put a cross from the right side to the middle of the box where they connected for the lone goal of the contest.
WashU took 21 shots to just eight for Brandeis. The Bears also led in corner kicks (6-2).
Junior Zach Susee substituted in late in the first half and led WashU with five shots; two of which were on goal.
Sophomore Cal L'Hommedieu played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bears.
WashU (6-4-1, 0-2-0 UAA) returns home next Saturday, October 19 when they welcome the Violets of NYU to Francis Olympic Field. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. The Bears will be recognizing Cancer Awareness Day during the contest.
