WALTHAM, Mass. – The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team defeated No. 23 Brandeis 1-0 on Friday morning. With the win, the Bears improve to 13-0-1 overall with a 2-0 mark in UAA play.
The Bears got on the board in the 37
th minute, which was ultimately the game-winning goal. First-year
Olivia Clemons was fouled in the box on a breakaway, giving WashU a penalty kick opportunity. Graduate student
Ally Hackett netted the penalty kick in the lower left corner, putting WashU up 1-0.
Statistically, the Bears had 18 shots with nine on goal to Brandeis' seven with one on goal. WashU also had six corner kicks to the Judges' two.
Clemons had five shots with two on goal while junior
Grace Ehlert had three shots with one on goal. First-year
Cami Colpitts registered two shots with one on goal and senior
Gaelen Clayton had two shots.
Sophomore
Charlotte Shapiro made one save, earning her first solo clean sheet of the season.
The Bears are back home next Saturday with an 11 a.m. game against NYU, which will serve as Cancer Awareness Day.
