Men’s Track and Field Tallies Four Event Victories at RHIT’s Friday Night Spikes Opener

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Washington University in St. Louis men's track and field program returned to action for the first time in over a month at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's Friday Night Spikes Opener, Friday, January 12. Out of 15 scored events, the Bears won four. 
 
WashU competed alongside RHIT and Manchester University. 
 
Friday's Top Finishers: 
 
60 Meters: 
  • Alex Gardner turned in the top time for the Bears (7.00), to earn a second-place finish in the event 
  • Carson Page registered eighth with a mark of 7.29 
200 Meters: 
  • WashU finished second and third in the 200-meter race 
  • George Bourdier claimed runner up with a time of 22.58 
  • Alex Gardner secured third (22.91) 
400 Meters: 
  • Alex Djetto welcomed a first-place finish in the 400-meter race with a mark of 51.25 
800 Meters: 
  • The Bears turned in the top three times in the event 
  • James Corbett topped the field of 14 as he crossed the finish line with a time of 1:56.47 
  • William Frohling (1:57.17) took second, while Jackson Cox (1:57.53) grabbed third 
Mile: 
  • WashU finished second-fifth in the mile run 
  • Will Liu took second with a time of 4:23.18 
  • Jesse Sanchez (4:26.70) and James Corbett (4:31.98) registered third and fourth, respectively  
  • Charlie Fallon grabbed fifth with a mark of 4:38.62 
5,000 Meters: 
  • Russell Kramer earned a runner up mark in the 5,000-meter race (15:46.62) 
  • Maxwell Latshaw (15:59.66) took fourth, with Alex Means (16:18.37) hauled in seventh 
60 Meter Hurdles: 
  • Loucas Xenakis, WashU's lone athlete in the event, registered fourth with a mark of 9.06 
4 x 400 Relay: 
High Jump: 
  • Jalen Dural secured a second-place finish in the high jump with a distance of 1.87m 
Pole Vault: 
Long Jump: 
  • WashU notched second and third in the long jump 
  • Loucas Xenakis garnered second (6.65m), while Jalen Dural (6.52m) hauled in third 
Triple Jump: 
  • Matt Joachim notched third in the event with a jump of 12.71m 

NCAA Division III Top-10 Marks (2023-24 season): 

4 x 400 Relay: 
  • Gardner, Frohling, Cox, Djetto – 10th – 3:20.11 - Friday Night Spikes Opener

The Bears will return to the track on Saturday, January 20 at Illinois Wesleyan University. WashU will compete in IWU's annual I-55 Triangular from the Shirk Center Indoor Track. Action from Bloomington is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
