Lebanon, Ill. – The No. 14 Washington University in St. Louis swimming and diving team defeated Division II McKendree 161.00-138.00 on Saturday afternoon.
Diving
First-year
Shanze Karimi broke a 26-year-old program record on the 3-meter board, tallying 285.82 points and winning the field. The previous record of 285.67 was set in 1998.
Madi Okon took second with a score of 267.37 while
Rosie Finglass finished fourth with a score of 244.20 and
Noa Miller finished fifth with a score of 227.03.
Karimi finished second on the 1-meter board with a score of 451.95.
Roslyn Tischke finished third with 443.78 points while Okon took fourth with a score of 435.38. Miller finished fifth with a score of 419.24 and Finglass finished sixth with 418.62 points.
Swimming
The Bears opened the day with a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay as the team of
Ali Roche,
Riyapreet Sahota,
Eve Kearns and
Isabella Barrientos swam to a time of 3:59.86. The Team of
Elizabeth Chen,
Hannah Lee,
Peyton Watson and Izzie Gatton took third in 4:00.02.
First-year
Holly Gmelich took second in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:08.21 while
Nicole Caruso finished third in 11:09.83.
Rachel Bello was the top Bears' finisher in the 200 freestyle, taking second with a time of 1:56.98. Roche finished fourth with a time of 1:57.89 and Sahota rounded out the top five with a time of 2:02.20.
Chen won the 100 backstroke, racing to a time of 59.95.
Kylie Juan claimed third in in 1:00.67 while
Rin Iimi finished fourth in 1:01.51 and Barrientos took fifth in 1:01.70.
Lee won the 100 breaststroke, racing to a time of 1:07.62.
Lili Sandor finished third with a time of 1:08.46 and
Avery Dixon took sixth in 1:09.70.
Kearns led the field in the 200 butterfly, winning with a time of 2:10.48.
Kiera Johnson took second with a time of 2:14.81 and
Rachel Ssengonzi finished fifth in 2:18.56.
Leng won the 50 freestyle, racing to a time of 24.61. Gattone took fifth in 25.24.
Watson was the top Bears' finisher in the 100 freestyle, taking third place in 54.64.
Roche won the 200 backstroke, swimming to a time of 2:10.35 while Juan took second in 2:11.24. Iimi finished fourth with a time of 2:12.74 and Barrientos rounded out the top five with a time of 2:13.14.
Sandor was the top finisher in the 200 breaststroke, winning in 2:25.93. Sahota finished fourth with a time of 2:29.91 and Lee took fifth in 2:31.25.
Bello was the top WashU finisher in the 500 freestyle, taking second in 5:15.95. Gmelich finished fourth with a time of 5:26.62 and
Kiara Crumbley finished fifth with a time of 5:28.30.
Kearns finished second in the 100 butterfly, racing to a time of 59.52.
Anya Rao took fourth in 1:01.79 and Ssengonzi finished fifth in 1:04.89.
Iimi won the 400 IM, swimming to a time of 4:36.73. Sandor finished third in 4:46.32 and
Natalie Klaas took fourth with a time of 4:48.29.
Alice Mao rounded out the top five with a time of 4:51.46.
The Bears wrapped up the day with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay as the team of Leng, Gatton, Sahota and Watson finished in 1:38.77. The team of Lee,
Sophia Gossum, Barrientos and Bello claimed fourth with a time of 1:41.74.
WashU is back in action next weekend with a Saturday meet at DePauw.
