ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 4 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team improved to 7-0 and 4-0 at home with a 3-0 win over Rose-Hulman.
After a goal that was called back due to being offsides, the Bears scored their first goal in the 13
th minute. Senior
Anna Viscovich slipped a pass to junior
Meryl McKenna who fired it in for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
WashU added its second goal in the 61
st minute off of a corner kick. After Viscovich put the ball in play on the corner, there was scuffle before sophomore
Ella Koleno got a foot on it and found the back of the net for her second goal of the year.
The third and final goal was scored in the 85
th minute. Junior
Emma Riley McGahan played a long ball up to sophomore
Grace Ehlert, who slipped past Rose-Hulman's goalkeeper and fired one in for her third goal of the season.
The Bears had a balanced offensive attack, registering 10 shots in each half for 20 total and eight on goal. WashU also recorded seven corner kicks.
WashU's defense held the Fightin' Engineers to just two shots, both in the first half. The Bears defense and goalkeeper
Sidney Conner – who made two saves – earned their seventh shutout of the year in as many games. WashU is currently in a three-way tie for first in the nation for goals-against average, having not let up a single goal this season.
The Bears have just over a week off now before hosting Emory in the UAA opener on Sunday, October 1 at 11 a.m.
