St. Louis, Mo. – Washington University in St. Louis Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Director of Athletics Anthony J. Azama has announced the hiring of Angelique Tejada and Tuyet Truong as assistant athletic trainers. Both will begin their appointments in Sports Medicine within the Center of Excellence on August 1.
Tejada comes to WashU after spending two years at Lindbergh High School as the head athletic trainer where she oversaw the student athletic training aids in the Lindbergh Sports Medicine Club, working with doctors, administrators and parents and provided as-needed care for events including ECNL contests and Collegiate Rugby Nationals.
Prior to Lindbergh, Tejada spent nearly a year as the athletic trainer at Flagler Palm Coast High School in Palm Coast, Fla. From December 2018 to July 2021, Tejada worked for Advent Health in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. where she provided athletic training for events such as AAU National Championships in volleyball, baseball, softball, wrestling and soccer.
Tejada was also the head athletic trainer at The Master's Academy in Orlando, Fla. and prior to that, from she was an assistant athletic trainer at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. Tejada was also a part-time athletic trainer for the University of Central Florida Recreation and Wellness Center.
Tejada graduated with a bachelor's degree in athletic training and a minor in health science from the University of Central Florida and recently completed her master's degree in exercise science with a concentration in strength and condition from Concordia University of Chicago.

"She brings a great deal of athletic training knowledge and an infectious energy to our department. Her enthusiasm and experience will only serve to enhance the services provided to our Scholar-Champions. I am excited for the positive impact that she will have on our Bear community."
Truong comes to WashU after nearly two years at UMSL as an assistant athletic trainer. During that time, she also served as the interim head athletic trainer for spring 2023. In her time at UMSL, Truong traveled to national championships with both men's basketball and women's golf. She also was responsible for scheduling, monthly reporting, management of physicals, insurance, inventory and supply order.
Prior to UMSL, Truong served as the head athletic trainer for outreach and expansion at Athleticare Sports Health Foundation for just over two years. In this role she helped provide athletic training services to over 18 high school and youth sports organizations. She was also responsible for reaching out to high schools to discuss the importance and benefits of having athletic training services available.
In June 2019, Truong worked with AIDS/LifeCycle to provide athletic training services for cyclists traveling from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
Truong graduated with a bachelor's degree in athletic training from Southeast Missouri State and went on to complete her master's degree in applied exercise science: human movement science from Concordia University of Chicago.
