Phuc Huynh opened NCAA Championship singles and doubles play on Thursday.
Singles
Fourth-ranked Huynh defeated Trinity's Hao Nguyen 6-3, 7-6(7-5) to advance to the Round of 16. He went on to beat Carlton's Tarm Rojanasoonthon, moving on to the quarterfinals. Huynh won the first set 6-1 before falling 3-6 in the second. A 6-2 win in the third set secured the match. Huynh will face Tufts' Rishabh Sharda in the quarterfinals tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. ET.
Ramireddy had a big upset over second-ranked Tristan Bradley of Bowdoin in the opening round. He won the first set 6-3 before falling 6-0 in the second set. Ramireddy came back to win the third set 6-1 and clinch the match. Ramireddy fell to RPI's Aiden Drover-Mattinen 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 in the Round of 16.
Doubles
Huynh and Ramireddy topped second-ranked Derin Acaroglu and Vuk Vuksanovic of Tufts 7-5, 6-4 in the Round of 16 to move on to tomorrow's quarterfinal against Swarthmore's Michael Melnikov and Uthan Koduri.
