Baseball Falls to No. 18 UW-Stevens Point

St. Louis, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team fell to No. 18 UW-Stevens Point 7-1 on Saturday. The Bears are now 15-7 on the season.
 
The Pointers put up two runs in the top of the first inning to start things off. Trent Van Ess drew a lead-off walk and Payton Nelson was hit by a pitch. Bradley Comer grounded into a double play with Nelson out at second and Van Ess moving up to third base. Anthony Tomczak drew a walk and advanced to second on an error, giving Van Ess time to score. Brendan Canterbury singled to center, scoring Tomczak for the 2-0 edge.
 
UWSP scored two more runs in the top of the third inning. Nelson drew a one-out walk and Comer hit a ground-rule double. Tomczack reached first on an error, scoring Nelson. Canterbury singled, bringing in Comer for a 4-0 lead.
 
The Pointers added another in the top of the fourth inning. Jakob Boos drew a lead-off walk and moved up on a Logan Matson sac bunt. Van Ess singled to center, putting Boos on third and Boos scored on a Nelson single.
 
WashU scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Brandon Buday hit a one-out double to left field and Shane Pellegrino drew a two-out walk. Clayton Miller singled, scoring Buday to make it a 5-1 game.
 
UWSP scored its final two runs in the top of the eighth inning. Matson led off with a double to left field and moved to third on a Van Ess single to short. Comer hit a one-out double to score both runners for the 7-1 lead.
 
Buday finished 2-for-4 with one run score while Zac Malis went 2-for-3. Will Henkel took his first loss of the season on the mound with four hits, three earned runs and four walks.
 
The Bears wrap up the two-game series tomorrow at 11 a.m.
