St. Louis, Mo. – The No. 18 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team beat Division II Maryville 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bears went up 2-1 following doubles and won fourth through sixth singles to secure the win.
Karen Gao and
Eliana Hanna defeated Carolina Velazquez and Billur Gonlusen 8-7 (7-5) at first doubles while
Amber Edmonds and
Katherine Johnston topped Emily Orlove and Victoria Lisson 8-5 at second doubles.
Ainsley Heidbreder and
Nina Moravek fell to Maria Paula Suarez and Maria Gouveia 8-7 (7-5)
Edmonds beat Nazli Saka 6-0, 6-2 at fourth singles while
Carolyn Tsung beat Lisson 6-0, 7-5 at fifth singles.
Hallie Jeffers defeated Gouveia 7-5, 7-5 at sixth singles.
Moravek fell to Gonlusen 6-2, 6-3 at first singles and Johnston lost to Velazquez 7-5, 5-7, 10-8 at second singles.
Sophia Huynh was defeated by Orlove 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 at third singles.
The Bears hit the road this weekend for matches at North Central and Chicago.
