Box Score Pasadena, Calif. – The No. 17 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team lost to No. 20 Caltech 5-4 on Monday afternoon.
The Bears went down 2-1 following doubles with
Nina Moravek and
Ainsley Heidbreder notching the lone win, defeating Athena Kolli and Payal Patel 8-4 at third doubles.
Eliana Hanna and
Amber Edmonds fell to Anika Arora and Emily Zhang 8-3 at first doubles and
Hallie Jeffers and
Katherine Johnston lost to Yoyo Benchetrit and Nina Solovyeva 8-3 at second doubles.
Edmonds evened the score, picking up a win over Kolli 6-2, 6-0 at fifth singles, following by a win from
Carolyn Tsung over Patel 6-1, 6-1 at sixth singles.
Moravek lost to Benchetrit 6-3, 6-2 at second singles to make it a 3-3 match and a win from Johnston over Solovyeva at fourth singles gave the Bears a 4-3 edge. Caltech's Anika Arora defeated
Sophia Huynh 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 at third singles to make the match 4-4.
The match came down to a hard-fought singles match between Hanna and Zhang with Zhang coming out on top 6-7(5-7), 6-3, 6-1.
The Bears are back tomorrow with a 9:30 a.m. PT match against Whitman.
