Box Score Claremont, Calif. – The No. 17 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team fell to No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer 7-2 in its first match of the Bears' spring break trip in California.
WashU went down 2-1 after doubles with the lone win coming from
Eliana Hanna and
Amber Edmonds at first doubles as the duo beat Nina Ye and Lauren Rha 8-4.
Katherine Johnston and
Hallie Jeffers fell to Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey 8-6 at second doubles while
Nina Moravek and
Ainsley Heidbreder lost to Samantha Moore-Thomson and Janie Marcus 8-6 at third doubles.
Moravek notched a win for the Bears at second singles, defeating Ye 7-5, 6-1.
Hanna fell to Zhou 6-2, 6-0 at first singles while
Sophia Huynh lost to Georgia Ryan 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 at third singles. Edmonds was topped by Lauren Rha 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 at fourth singles while
Carolyn Tsung lost to Amelia Poor 6-3, 6-1 at fifth singles. Jeffers lost to Marcus 6-3, 6-1 at sixth singles.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow with a 10 a.m. PT match at Caltech.
