St. Louis, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team defeated Luther, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at Kelly Field. The Bears are now 7-2 on the season.
Luther put up the first two runs of the game in the top of the first inning. Peyton Landmark reached base on an error to lead things off and Cullen Stamp doubled down the left field line. Lindmark scored on a Noah Sebben ground out to short and Stamp scored as Gabe Atkins reached first on a shortstop error.
After several scoreless innings, the Bears finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Brandon Buday hit a lead-off triple and
Kaden Bernhard drew a walk.
Shane Pellegrino hit a single to score Buday and
Clayton Miller laid down a sac bunt to advance the runners.
Braden Mazone drove in Bernahrd with a ground out to third to tie things up 2-2.
Then,
Broghan O'Connor drew a walk and
Chris Jacinto singles to load the bases. All runners moved up on a wild pitch, scoring Pellegrino for a 3-2 lead.
Buday went 2-for-4 with one run scored while Jacinto finished 1-for-3.
Matt Lopes picked up the win on the mound, going seven innings with seven strikeouts and
Kyle Coates picked up his second save of the year with 1.2 innings of relief with two strikeouts.
The Bears wrap up the series with Luther tomorrow with a double-header at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
