Box Score 2 Terre Haute, Ind. – The No. 18 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team defeated No. 26 Denison and No. 38 Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday afternoon.
Match 1: WashU 9, Denison 0
The Bears team of
Eliana Hanna and
Amber Edmonds defeated Sydney Giancola and Sarah Robertson 8-7 (7-4) at first doubles while
Katherine Johnston and
Hallie Jeffers topped Kendal Schrader and Caroline Lopez 8-7 (7-1) and second doubles.
Nina Moravek and
Ainsley Heidbreder beat Peyton Oda and Hannah Quick 8-3 at third doubles.
Hanna notched a win over Giancola at first singles, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5. After going down 6-7 in the first set, Moravek came back to beat Robertson 6-1, 6-2 in the next sets to take the match.
Sophia Huynh topped Peyton Oda 6-1, 6-1 at third singles.
Johnstone defeated Lopez 6-0, 6-4 at fourth singles while Edmonds beat Sofia Zafropoulos 6-1, 6-4 at fifth singles. Tsung beat Elizabeth Hoo 6-4, 6-1 at sixth singles.
Match 2: WashU 5, Gustavus Adolphus 4
After falling behind 3-0 after doubles, the Bears battled back to win the match 5-4.
Heidbreder, a sophomore, clinched the match with a win at fifth singles. After going down 6-1 in the first set, she battled back to claim the second set 7-6(7) and the third set 6-1 to take the match.
WashU also got wins at first singles from Huynh, who topped Yuki Oda 6-3, 6-2 as well as third singles as Tsung defeated Allie Laux 6-3, 6-0. Jeffers topped Halle Rosentretter 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles and
Natalie Muldowney beat Pavla Yakimova 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 at sixth singles.
The Bears wrap up the weekend with a 12 p.m. ET match against DePauw tomorrow.
