St. Louis, Mo. – The No. 2 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team defeated Maryville (Tenn.) 2-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday evening. The Bears haven't lost a first-round NCAA Tournament game since 2014.
The Bears put their first goal of the day on the board in the 14
th minute as sophomores
Kaci Karl and
Ella Koleno connected and Koleno scored her fifth goal of the season.
WashU added another goal at the 21:34 mark when senior
Jessica Greven slipped a short pass to junior
Gaelen Clayton, who fired it in for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
The Bears dominated on both ends recording 16 shots with five on goal while holding Maryville to just two shots.
Goalkeeper
Sidney Conner made her first save of the day in the 78
th minute on a Madison McDonald shot. She then preserved the shutout in the 81
st minute, stopping a penalty kick taken by Delaney Muldoon. It marks Conner's 15
th shutout of the year.
The Bears will return to action tomorrow against the winner of Sewanee and Hanover at 7 p.m.
