St. Louis, Mo. – Washington University in St. Louis Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and the John M. Schael Director of Athletics Anthony J. Azama along with head softball coach Casey Cromwell have announced the hiring of Michaela Guthrie as the new interim assistant softball coach.
Guthrie comes to WashU from Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa where she was an assistant softball coach for the past two seasons. During her time at Clarke, an NAIA school, she helped mentor six Heart of America All-Conference selections.
"I am excited to announce the hire of Michaela Guthrie to our program," said Cromwell. "Michaela is energetic and passionate about the game and the student-athlete as a whole. The energy she brings to all aspects of life is contagious and I can't wait to have that around our student-athletes. Her background in DIII as both a player and a coach will allow us to hit the ground running."
Prior to Clarke, Guthrie served as a graduate assistant in athletic communications and a volunteer softball assistant coach at Illinois Wesleyan.
Guthrie was a three-year letter winner at Monmouth College where she also served as a student assistant as a sophomore due to injuries. She earned MWC Academic All-Conference honors all fours years as a Fighting Scot. Additionally, Guthrie earned Midwest Scholar Athlete and NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete three times. On the field, she was named MWC All-Conference Second Team ad NFCA All-Region Third Team.
Guthrie earned her bachelor's degree in exercise science and business administration from Monmouth College and her master's degree in sport manage from Illinois State University. She will begin her duties at WashU on Thursday, January 12.
