St. Louis, Mo. – The No. 11 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team battled No. 16 Trinity (Texas) to a 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon.
The Bears are now 1-0-1 as they move on to face Fontbonne tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. in their last home game for two-and-a-half weeks.
WashU outshot Trinity 9-5 with four shots on goal while the Tigers had two shots on goal. The Bears also recorded six corner kicks to Trinity's three.
The Bears had their first chance of the day in the 18
th minute as senior
Maggie Brett tried to slip a shot into the bottom right of the net but keeper Joey Finley was there to make the save. In the 23
rd minute, junior
Kate Flynn's shot was stopped by Finley to keep the Bears off the board.
In addition to playing 85 minutes to anchor the midfield for the Bears, junior
Anna Viscovich had a scoring opportunity in the 24
th minute, but her shot was blocked by a Trinity defender.
Less than five minutes into the second half,
Jessica Greven put a ball to the bottom center, which was stopped by Finley.
On the other end, junior
Sidney Conner saved Trinity's Taylor Campbell's shot in the 56
th minute.
Flynn had another chance in the 66
th minute, but the shot to the bottom left was stopped by Finley.
Conner came up with her second save of the day in the 76
th minute, stopping Hanna Khan's ball. Conner picked up her second shutout in as many games, anchoring the Bears' defense in the net.
The Bears face local foe Fontbonne tomorrow before heading out the California for games against Cal. Lutheran and Occidental next weekend.
