Terre Haute, Ind. – The Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team played Rose-Hulman to a 0-0 draw on Saturday evening.
The Bears are now 3-1-5 on the season.
Statistically, WashU outshot the Fightin' Engineers 23-6 with nine shots on goal and also had 10 corner kicks to Rose-Hulmans two.
The Bears started peppering Rose-Hulman goalkeeper Natalie Dillon early on, recording their first shot just 3:31 in and their first shot on goal in the ninth minute. The shot from senior
Riley Alvarez was saved.
In the 21
st minute, first-year
Marilee Karinshak's shot was saved by Dillon and a shot from
Kerrigan Ferland in the 32
nd minute was stopped.
Following a corner kick in the 33
rd minute,
Jessica Greven put a shot on frame – the final shot on goal of the first half – which was saved by Dillon.
The Bears got off their first shot on goal of the second half in the 53
rd minute, but the ball from
Anna Viscovich was saved. WashU forced Dillon to make another save in the 58
th minute, this time on a shot from Karinshak.
Viscovich put another shot on frame in the 66
th minute and
Tyler Wilson added one in the 71
st minute.
Kate Flynn had one more shot on goal for the Bears in the 87
th minute, which was saved by Dillon.
Junior goalkeeper
Sidney Conner made two saves against the Fightin' Engineers – both in the second half – to keep a clean sheet for the Bears. It marks her sixth shutout of the season.
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday when they make the short trip to Webster for a 6 p.m. match, which is the last non-conference tune-up before UAA play begins next weekend.
