Whitewater, Wis. – The Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team battled the Wisconsin-Whitewater to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon in the final game of Whitewater's W Challenge.
The Bears are now 3-1-3 on the season as they head into the final four games prior to beginning UAA play on October 1.
After neither team scored in the first half, it was the Warhawks that got on the board first in the 78
th minute as Emily Thill scored on a pass from Sarah Clancy.
With less than three minutes remaining in the game, the Bears tied things up when senior
Maggie Brett scored on an assist from
Ella Koleno in the 88
th minute. The goal marks Brett's team-leading fifth of the season which is second among UAA players.
The second half proved more productive offensively for both teams.
In the 49
th minute, junior goalkeeper
Sidney Conner made her first save of the game on an Allie Prigge shot. She came up with another save in the 58
th minute on a Nicole Dawson ball. Conner made one final save with 42 seconds remaining on another Prigge shot to preserve the draw.
Statistically, the Bears outshot Whitewater 10-5, but the Warhawks registered three more shots on goal.
WashU is home on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Millikin before hitting the road again for four games.
