NACDA RELEASE | FULL STANDINGS
Cleveland, Ohio – Washington University in St. Louis finished fifth in the 2021-22 Division III LEARFIELD Directors' Cup Standings, as announced by the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) on Thursday.
"The Directors' Cup represents a collective effort by the entire athletics department and University leadership to provide an experience for student-athletes to cultivate their talents to compete at the highest levels," said Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and the John M. Schael Director of Athletics Anthony J. Azama. "But this year the standings represent the athletic department and the student-athletes' resiliency in response to the previous year's Pandemic Pause, where student-athletes had a year without NCAA competition. It just means more!"
This is the 17th year in a row that the Bears have finished among the top 10 in the LEARFIELD Directors' Cup with 13 of those years in the top five. There was no Directors' Cup awarded during 2019-20 and 2020-21.
The Bears finished with 922.50 points after nine top-10 finishes this year, headlined by the 2022 Men's Indoor Track and Field National Championship.
Along with the NESCAC, the UAA led the way with three teams finishing among the top ten, as Chicago finished seventh and Emory finished ninth.
The Bears had 14 programs reach the NCAA Tournament this year – men's and women's cross country, women's soccer, men's soccer, men's basketball, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's tennis, softball and women's golf.
Tufts won the Directors' Cup for the first time in program history with 1,080 points, followed by Johns Hopkins with 1,043 points, Middlebury with 1,000.50 and MIT with 936.75.
The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institutions finish in NCAA Championships.
