Box Score St. Louis, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team fell 12-2 (F/8) on Sunday afternoon to Fontbonne University at Shaw Park in the Bears' 2022 regular season finale.
WU concludes the season with a 12-24 record following Sunday's contest.
The Bears produced 10 hits on Sunday but left seven runners on base. WashU fell behind 3-0 after the first inning due to a two-RBI double and RBI single from the Griffins.
Fontbonne scored the first seven runs of the game, scoring twice more in the second on a two-RBI single to right field and then added two more runs on four hits in the third frame.
WashU finally got on the board in the top of the fourth after Broghan O'Connor connected on his fourth home run of the weekend with a solo shot to left.
However, the Bears would get blanked for the next four innings and would not score again until Jack Miller's RBI single to center brought home Anthony Gross.
The Griffins would add on to their lead with three additional runs in the fifth, before scoring the final two runs in the eighth on an RBI double and a wild pitch to win the game in eight innings.
Clayton Miller got the start on the mound and received the loss for the Bears, as he lasted 2.2 innings, surrendering seven runs in total.
Clayton Miller, Jack Miller, and Joe Georger all recorded multi-hit games with two hits apiece. The Bears tallied two doubles as Miller and Gross each hit one apiece.
