Box Score 2 Chesterfield, Mo. – The No. 19 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team won both its matches on Saturday afternoon, defeating Grinnell and UW-Eau Claire.
The Bears are now 13-6 overall.
Match 1: WashU 5, Grinnell 4
The Bears picked up one win in doubles action, at second doubles. The team of Divya Sharma and Carolyn Tsung defeated Sophia de los Reyes and Mira Manchanda 8-0 to notch a point.
Katherine Johnston and Ainsley Heidbreder fell to Sabrina Tang and Ioanna Giannakou 8-3 at first doubles while Aasha Ardila and Maggie Yang fell to Lily Perrin and Erin Jarvis 8-2 at third doubles.
WashU picked up wins at third, fourth, fifth and sixth singles to clinch the match.
Katherine Johnston defeated Giannakou 6-2, 6-4 at third singles while Heidbreder took down de los Reyes 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 at fourth singles.
Hannah Johnston topped Perrin 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 at fifth singles and Tsung defeated Erin Jarvis 6-3, 6-1 at sixth singles.
Sharma fell to Tang 6-3, 6-1 at first singles while Sophia Huynh lost to Manchanda 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 at second singles.
Match 2: WashU 6, UW-Eau Claire 3
Ardila and Yang picked up the lone WashU win at doubles, beating Morgan Dekan and Morgan Nelson 8-2 at third doubles.
Katherine Johnston and Ainsley Heidbreder fell to Elaine Franta and Lindsey Henderson 8-5 at first doubles while Sharma and Tsung lost to Clare Palen and Samantha Fuchs 8-5 at second doubles.
Sharma turned around to defeat Franta 6-2, 6-0 at first singles while Katherine Johnston defeated Henderson 6-1, 6-0 at third singles.
Tsung topped Fuchs 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(0) at fourth singles and Anke Patel defeated Nelson 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles. Natalie Muldowney beat Sydney Pressler 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 at sixth singles. Huynh fell to Palen 6-1, ret. at second singles.
The Bears are home again next weekend with a Friday match against Denison at 4 p.m. and a Sunday match against Chicago at 1 p.m. The match against Chicago will be senior day.
