Webster did a majority of its damage in the bottom half of the first, following an RBI double and two-RBI home run, pushing the Gorlocks ahead 3-1.

After surrendering three runs in the first frame, the Bears' pitching staff took control and allowed just one run and three total hits the rest of the contest.

Sebastian Guzman, who started on the mound for the Bears, received the loss pitching 3.0 innings of work. Guzman allowed only two hits and struck out five, but gave up three earned runs.

WashU reduced the lead down to 3-2 in the top of the fourth after Broghan O'Connor ripped an RBI double to score Jack Miller from first.

Later in the inning, Brandon Buday reached on a single, as he and O'Connor would advance to second and third base with just one out.

However, WashU was unable to add more runs in the frame, stranding seven baserunners throughout Wednesday evening.

Will Henkel pitched the next two innings in relief, blanking the Gorlocks in the fourth and fifth innings, while allowing just one hit.

After the Bears went down in order in the sixth and seventh innings, Webster added took advantage, adding a run of insurance in the bottom of the seventh off a solo homer to left, extending the Gorlocks' lead out to 4-2.

With two outs, Dunn successfully stole second and moved to third following a throwing error, allowing Buday to score and cut the deficit down to 4-3.

With the tying run 90 feet away, WashU was unable to rally back, as groundout to second would close out the game.

Joseph Hettinger and Matt Lopes pitched the final 1.1 innings of the game and held WU hitless.

The Bears out-hits the Gorlocks 8-5, as Van Kirk extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a 2-4 effort at the plate.
