Box Score

St. Louis, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team fell 10-8 at Kelly Field on Wednesday afternoon to No. 10 Webster in non-conference play.

WashU slips to 11-22 on the season while the Gorloks now sit at 27-5 overall.

Webster tabbed the contests' first run in the top of the first on an RBI groundout after placing runners on the corner with one out.

The Bears fired back with three runs in the home half of the inning. A throwing error scored two runs and allowed Clayton Miller to reach third base.

Later in the frame, Andrew Huang's RBI single to left would score Miller to extend the Bears' lead up to 3-1.

Austin Sachen got the start on the mound and pitched two innings, while Matt Lopes pitched the next two innings in relief, allowing no earned runs.

After neither team scored in the second and third innings, the Gorloks scored two runs to tie the game after a costly infield error with two outs extended the inning.

WashU responded in the bottom of the fourth with three runs on four hits. After Bo Anderson and Zac Styka reached on a walk and a single, Broghan O'Connor's RBI single to left center allowed Anderson to cross the plate to put WU back on top 4-3.

Styka would score moments later following an RBI single from Tim Van Kirk with baserunners still on first and second.

The third run of the inning was scored off Clayton Miller's RBI single to right field, as WashU was back in command 6-3.

The Bears were able hold Webster scoreless in both the fifth and sixth innings and added a run in the bottom of the fifth after Zac Malis connected on an RBI single up the middle to bring home Huang for a 7-3 advantage.

In the top of the seventh, Webster inched its way closer from its four-run deficit with three runs on four hits. The Gorloks began the inning with a leadoff homer and then scored two runs off a two-out single down the left field line.

Styka recorded his third hit of the afternoon in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single up the middle to score Anderson for an insurance run, giving WU an 8-6 edge.

However, in the top of the ninth, Webster rallied back with four runs on six hits to reclaim the lead for good.

The Gorloks loaded up the bases with nobody out, and then scored three runs on a bases clearing hit to left center to take a 9-8 lead.

WashU finished with 12 hits as Styka's 3-4 effort at the plate led the way. Clayton Miller and Huang both notched multi-hit games with two hits each.
