Box Score St. Louis, Mo. – The No. 19 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team fell 5-0 to No. 1 Chicago on Sunday. Prior to the match, the Bears honored seniors Hannah Johnston and Divya Sharma.
Due to weather, the match was cut short once a decision was made.
Chicago took an early 3-0 lead, winning all three doubles matched.
Karen Gao and Ainsley Heidbreder fell to Sylwia Mikos and Shianna Guo 8-4 at first doubles while Katherine Johnston and Sharma lost to Claudia Ng and Eugenia Lee 8-6 at second doubles. Maggie Yang and Carolyn Tsung were topped by Lauren Park and Perene Wang 8-4 at third doubles.
At singles, Sharma lost to Mikos 6-2, 6-1 at first singles and Sophia Huynh fell to Guo 6-3, 6-2 at second singles.
Katherine Johnston fell to Ng 6-2 in the first set of third singles and was trailing 2-0 when the match was called. Heidbreder lost to Miranda Yuan 6-3 in the first set of fourth singles and won the second set 2-6. She was trailing 2-1 when the match was ended.
Hannah Johnston lost to Park 6-3 in the first set of fifth singles and was winning the second set 5-1. Tsung lost the first set of sixth singles to Chloe Isabella Tsang 6-3 and was winning the second set 1-0.
The Bears now head to the UAA Championships in Altamonte Springs, Fla. next weekend from Friday, April 22 to Sunday, April 24.
