Chesterfield, Mo. – The No. 19 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team defeated Denison 5-4 on Friday afternoon at Forest Lake Tennis Club.

The Bears picked up two wins in doubles action.

Katherine Johnston and Divya Sharma defeated Monique Brual and Caroline Lopez 8-5 at second doubles while Maggie Yang and Aasha Ardila topped Hannah Bradvica and Susan Beiderstedt 8-5 at third singles.

Karen Gao and Ainsley Heidbreder fell to Sydney Cianciola and Sarah Robertson 8-3 at first doubles.

In singles action, WashU won third, fourth and sixth singles to win the match.

Katherine Johnston beat Brual 6-3, 6-3 at third singles while Hannah Johnston defeated Bradvica 6-0, 6-1 at fourth singles. Ardila topped Biederstedt 7-6(7), 6-1 at sixth singles.

Sharma fell to Giancoloa 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(3) at first singles and Sophia Huynh lost to Robertson 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 at second singles. Carolyn Tsung was defeated by Lopez 6-3, 6-2 at fifth singles.

The Bears wrap up regular-season play on Sunday afternoon with a 1 p.m. match against Chicago. Prior to the match, WashU will honor its seniors Hannah Johnston and Divya Sharma.
