Box Score Waltham, Mass. – The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team suffered an 11-6 loss on the road on Friday at Brandeis in University Athletic Association play.
The Bears started the contest off on the right note, tabbing three runs in the top of the first.
After Magnus Dunn reached first on a one-out single, Andrew Huang drilled a two-RBI homer to left centerfield to give WU the early advantage.
Later in the inning, Jack Miller delivered an RBI single to left, scoring Clayton Miller, who reached on a double down the right field line.
However, Brandeis knocked in five runs on six hits in the second frame, as the scoring began with an RBI single through the left side with no outs.
The Judges would connect on another RBI single to left to tie up the game, before a three-run homerun made it a 5-2 ballgame.
Following a scoreless third inning, the Bears reduced the lead down to just one in the fourth, thanks to a two-run homer from Harry Mauterer, his second of the year, cutting the deficit to 5-4.
The Judges answered back with six unanswered runs, scoring two in the home half of the fourth off a solo home run and an RBI single.
In the bottom of the fifth, BU tacked on four runs on three hits, including a two-run home run to centerfield.
WashU had two runners on in the top of the sixth, but the inning would end after Brandeis converted a double play.
The Bears would score one more run in the contest in the ninth frame. Zac Styka's RBI single up the middle brought home Mauterer for his second run of the day.
Brandeis' Mason Newman recorded the win, pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts. Clayton Miller was tabbed with the loss, as the sophomore lasted four innings while striking out six. Hank Weiss also saw action on the mound, tossing four innings in relief.
Jack Miller produced a career-high 3-4 effort at the plate with an RBI. Styka and Huang also recorded multi-hit games with two hits apiece.
Brandeis finished with 14 hits on Friday, while the Bears compiled 10 in total.
The Bears will matchup with the Judges again tomorrow for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 12:30 PM EST.
