Box Score Pleasantville, N.Y. – The (RV) Washington University in St. Louis softball team closed out the UAA series with NYU with a 6-0 win over the Violets. WashU and NYU split the series 2-2.
The win marks WashU's 20th of the season as they are now 20-8 with an 8-4 mark in UAA play.
The Bears wasted no time putting a run on the board, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Maggie Baumstark got things going with a triple down the right field line. Natalia Pilpil drew a two-out walk and Nicole Hay singled through the left side to bring in Baumstark.
Hay and Pilpil both advanced a base on a wild pitch, but the final out was recorded, leaving both runners stranded.
WashU came out in the top of the second to add another run.
Payton Irwin singled down the left field line. Katie Gould advanced Irwin with a bunt and Irwin made it to third base on a throwing error by the catch. Baumstark drove in Irwin with a single to center field to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.
The Bears continued to build on their lead in the top of the third inning, recorded two more runs.
Hay sent a one-out single to center field and Kirsten Drabek singled to left. Erin Reardon laid down a sac bunt to advance both runners, and Hay and Drabek scored on an Irwin double to left center field.
In the top of the fourth inning, WashU put another run on the board for a 5-0 lead.
Gould led off with a single up the middle and then stole second base. Tami Wong was hit by a pitch and Pilpil reached base on a fielder's choice in which Gould was out at third. Hay drove in Wong with a single through the left side.
The Bears added its final run of the game in the top of the sixth inning.
Wong drew a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. With two outs, Hay recorded a single and advanced to second base, giving Wong time to score.
Hay went 4-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Reardon finished 2-for-3 while Irwin went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Baumstark finished 2-for-5 with one RBI and one run.
Madison Denton pitched a complete game, allowing no runs, six hits and striking out two.
The Bears return home on Tuesday for a 3/5 p.m. doubleheader against Webster.
