Box Score 2 St. Louis, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis women's team won both its matches on Saturday, beating North Central 8-1 before taking down Rhodes 7-2 in the night match.
The Bears are now 6-0 on the season.
WashU 8, North Central 1
In the first match of the day, the Bears swept doubles.
Sophomore Karen Gao and first-year Ainsley Heidbreder defeated Hannah Hougland and Alaina Kanthaphixay 8-0 at first doubles.
The third doubles team of Divya Sharma and Carolyn Tsung finished next, defeating Mikayla Edquiban and Sydney Sawyer 8-0. Finally, the second doubles team of Katherine Johnston and Anke Patel beat Kaeli Smashey and Natalie Bassett 8-5.
In singles action, Gao defeated Smashey 6-2, 6-2 at first singles. Sharma topped Hougland 6-4, 6-1 at second singles and Sophia Huynh beat Bassett 6-4, 6-1 at third singles.
Heidbreder defeated Kanthaphixay 7-5, 6-4 at fourth singles and Hannah Johnston took down Edquiban 6-4, 6-0 at fifth singles.
Tsung fell to Sawyer 3-6, 6-1, 10-5 at sixth singles.
WashU 7, Rhodes 2
The second doubles team of Hannah Johnston and Aasha Ardila started things off for the Bear with a 8-0 win over Julie Darkey and Kate McGough at second doubles. Katherine Johnston and Sharma, at first doubles, then defeated Emily Holderness and Lea Letourneau 8-1 to give WashU the 2-0 edge.
Maggie Yang and Patel fell to Michelle Adan-Pol and Emma McHale 8-7(7-3) at third doubles.
At singles, Sharma defeated Esme Benjamin 6-0, 6-4 at first singles while Huynh beat Adan-Pol 7-6(6), 7-6(5) at second singles.
Heidbreder defeated Holderness 6-1, 6-0 at third singles while Patel fell to Letourneau 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles. Katherine Johnston beat McHale 6-3, 6-1 at fifth singles and Ardila beat Dallas Bennett 6-1, 6-0 at sixth singles.
The Bears now have just over a week off of competition as they prepare for their spring break trip to California. There, WashU will face Caltech, Redlands, Chapman and Bowdoin starting on Sunday, March 13.
