Box Score Pomona, Calif. – The No. 21 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team fell to No. 16 Bowdoin on Wednesday, 7-2. The Bears return from their California trip sitting at 8-2.
The Bears lost all three doubles matches to go down 3-0 to the Polar Bears.
Karen Gao and Ainsley Heidbreder lost to Jamilah Karah and Evelyn Safar 8-6 at first doubles while Katherine Johnston and Divya Sharma lost to Julia DeLuca and Fleming Landau 8-7 (7-2) at second doubles. Maggie Yang and Carolyn Tsung fell to Elizabeth Yu and Hannah Buckhout 8-4 at third doubles.
In singles action, Gao and Katherine Johnston won their matches.
Gao defeated 16th-ranked Karah 6-4, 6-2 at first singles while Katherine Johnston topped DeLuca 3-6, 7-5, 10-4 at sixth singles.
Sharma fell to Safar 6-3, 7-5 at second singles while Sophia Huynh lost to Yu 6-1, 6-2 at third singles. Heidbreder was defeated by Buckhout 6-2, 6-1 at fourth singles and Hannah Johnston fell to Landau 6-2, 6-3 at fifth singles.
WashU hits the road next weekend, March 25-26 for matches against Tufts and Mary Washington in San Antonio, Texas.
