Los Angeles, Calif. -- The No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team had a great start to their spring break trip out in Southern California on Monday, earning two victories over quality opponents.
The No. 3 Bears swept No. 33 Occidental 9-0 and defeated No. 27 Babson 6-3.
With the two victories, WashU improves to 6-2 on the season and has won four consecutive matches.
WashU will next take on NCAA DII opponents Biola and Azusa Pacific on Wednesday.
The Bears produced great singles play on the day, dropping only one match out of the 12 total played throughout Monday.
Despite trailing 2-1 after doubles play against Babson, the Bears took care of business in singles action, winning five of the six courts to take the match.
Against Occidental, WashU got off to a much better start, sweeping doubles play to build an important 3-0 lead. In singles action, it was all Bears, as they won all six singles courts in straight sets.
Jeremy Ouyang/Scott Yamamoto both went 2-0 in doubles action, as the pair have won four consecutive matches together.
Against Babson, WashU earned two hard-fought three set match wins, as Abhi Ramireddy won 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Luke Smith won 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 at the No. 3 position.
Both Ramireddy and Smith are an impressive 7-1 in singles play this spring season thus far.
Daniel Li and John Fakouri both won in straight sets in both matches at No. 2 and 5 singles, respectively.
