Box Score Pasadena, Calif. – The No. 21 Washington University women's tennis team continued to roll, defeating Caltech 5-4 to improve to 7-0 on the season.
After falling behind 2-4, the Bears came back to win three sets to clinch the match and the 5-4 win.
At doubles, Katherine Johnston and Divya Sharma picked up the first points of the match for the Bears, defeating Athena Kolli and Anik Arora 8-2 at second doubles.
Caltech pulled even with a win at third doubles as Michelle Hyun and Payal Patel defeated Hannah Johnston and Carolyn Tsung. Karen Gao and Ainsley Heidbreder gave the Bears a 2-1 edge, beating Anna Tifrea and Emily Zhang at first doubles.
WashU fell behind 4-2 following losses at second, fourth and fifth singles.
At second singles, Sharma fell to Zhang 6-3, 6-1 while Heidbreder lost to Riti Argawal 6-2, 2-6, 2-6 at fourth singles and Hannah Johnston lost to Yoyo Benchetrit 6-1, 6-3 at fifth singles.
Katherine Johnston started the comeback for the Bears, beating Hyun 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 at sixth singles. Sophie Huynh evened the match 4-4 with 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win over Jen Yu at third singles. Gao clinched the match with a big win at first singles, topping Tifrea 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-4.
The Bears take on Redlands tomorrow at 3 p.m. PT.
