Box Score 2 Greencastle, Ind. – The Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team improved to 4-0 on the season with wins over Wooster and DePauw on Saturday afternoon, at DePauw.
Wooster
The Bears opened the day with a 9-0 victory over Wooster in a neutral-site match.
In first doubles, the team of sophomore Karen Gao and first-year Ainsley Heidbreder defeated Wooster's Otilia Oita and Janaki Jagannathan, 8-2.
Sophomore Katherine Johnston and junior Anke Patel topped Charitha Patlolla and Kim Nguyen, 8-1, at second doubles and first-year Aasha Ardila and senior Hannah Johnston beat Katie Materick and Abby Aitken, 8-3, at third doubles.
In an exhibition, junior Sophia Huynh and sophomore Maggie Yang defeated Becky LaRue and Anesu Munyanyi, 8-0.
Senior Divya Sharma topped Oita, 6-3, 6-1, at first singles while Huynh beat Patlolla, 6-2, 3-0 (ret.), at second singles. Hannah Johnston took down Jagannathan, 6-4, 3-6, 10-2 at third singles and Patel beat Nguyen, 6-1, 6-2 at fourth singles.
Sophomore Natalie Muldowney defeated Materick, 6-1, 6-1, at fifth singles and Yang downed Aitken, 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles.
DePauw
The Bears then followed up with an 8-1 win over DePauw.
Katherine Johnston and Heidbreder claimed victory over Ellen Gardner and Kat Wilder in first doubles, 8-5.
First-year Carolyn Tsung and Sharma topped DePauw's Kiley Shaw and Kate Stanley, 8-2, in second doubles, while Ardila and Muldowney beat Lindsay Parks and Alex Preston, 8-2, at third doubles.
DePauw earned its sole point of the match at first singles, as Gardner defeated Huynh, 4-6, 6-1, 11-9.
Heidbreder defeated Wilder, 6-2, 6-2, at second singles while Hannah Johnston topped Shaw, 6-2, 6-3, at third singles. Muldowney beat Stanley, 6-3, 6-1, at fourth singles and Patel defeated Bella DeNardo, 6-1, 6-0, at fifth singles. Katherine Johnston wrapped up singles with a win over Preston, 6-0, 6-1, at sixth singles.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday, March 5 with a 1 p.m. home match against North Central.
