Box Score Chesterfield, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team defeated Southwest Baptist on Saturday evening, 7-2. The Bears are now 2-0 on the season.
The Bears won two of three doubles matches, winning first and third doubles.
The team of Karen Gao and Ainsley Heidbreder defeated Diana Cabrera and Paula Ballesteros, 8-7, at first doubles. At third doubles, Hannah Johnston and Aasha Ardila topped Lola Cincunegui and Gisella Garcia 8-4.
Katherine Johnston and Divya Sharma, at second doubles, fell to Ghada Dirninger and Elsa Pascual, 8-4.
On the singles side, the Bears won five of six matches.
Gao, at first singles, defeated Cabrea, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (0) while Sharma took down Pascual 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 at second singles.
Heidbreder topped Dirninger, 6-2, 6-4, at fourth singles and Hannah Johnston defeated Cincunego 6-2, 6-7, 10-7 at fifth singles. Natalie Muldowney beat Garcia, 7-6, 6-7 (ret) at sixth singles.
Sophia Huynh fell to Ballesteros, 5-7, 2-6 at third singles.
The Bears are back in action next Saturday, February 19 against Wooster at 12:30 p.m. ET and DePauw at 4:30 p.m. ET.
