Women's Soccer Shuts Out Rochester in UAA Action

St. Louis, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team posted a 2-0 shutout against the University of Rochester on Sunday afternoon to improve to 5-2-5 on the season and 1-1 in UAA play.
 
The Bears offense got things going early on, as first-year Marilee Karinshak corralled a rebound from a Rochester goalkeeper save and booted it into the net with just 3:44 off the clock, marking her third goal of the season.
 
WashU scored again early in the second half, in the 54th minute, as Maggie Brett sent a short pass to first-year Ella Koleno and Koleno fired it into the net for her first career goal at WashU.
 
The Bears had a couple of wide shots in the first half, from Brett and Tyler Wilson. Brett fired off the final shot on goal of the first half, in the 39th minute, which was saved by Rochester goalkeeper Gabby Sabatier.
 
Rochester registered just two shots in the first half, both of which were high over the goal.
 
In the 60th minute, the Yellowjackets registered their first shot on goal of the game, but the shot from Claire Grover was stopped by junior goalkeeper Sidney Conner. Conner made one more save in the 89th minute, stopping a Mia McGinty shot and preserving the shutout.
 
Brett registered three shots with one on goal and an assist while Koleno had two shots including her goal.
 
The Bears finished with nine shots with five on goal while Rochester had six total shots with two on goal.
 
Conner and the WashU defense notched the eighth shutout of the season.
 
WashU is back home on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. match against Millikin, which was postponed from its original date due to weather.
